I have to extract images quite often in the day to day function of my job. I am going to try this technique. Thanks so much! :)

I hope it works for you. Contrast in the original is the key, but if you have it, you can get most backgrounds this way. I learned this trick in a Photoshop Wow class I took when 5 was just coming out. (Those are my favorite series of Photoshop books!)
