Well, this is all news to me, as well as not knowing that when I stopped to view the eclipse in St. Albans City, I was only moments away from another presidential historical site. I doubt I'll ever go back, though. I just wouldn't have the time.

The last birth place I visited was Buchanan's. Ironic that both presidents had all of their personal papers burned upon their death.

I came back to Livejournal really just to read your entries. It's the only part of this site that I miss, and a good place to get recommendations on biographies, too! I'm always looking for those recommendations.

Welcome back. For March and the first part of April the theme was presidential biographies and I posted about the books written about (or in some cases by) each President, so if you're looking for ideas on any particular POTUS, those posts may be of help to you.

Presently I'm reading Erik Larson's latest book "The Demon of Unrest." It's about the start of Lincoln's Presidency and the attack on Fort Sumter. I'm just over halfway through and am loving it. It reads like a novel, but tells me so much I never knew.
