we can't slam our doors
it ain't us

maybe that should be a poster?
a motto for us to live up to?
would it change people?
we have a history of slamming doors

Polarization is making us less compassionate or so it seems. I still think that polarization is the product of income disparity. I think both parties are getting it wrong in the sense that the Democrats want to spend more and the Republicans want to tax less. Both approaches take us farther away from the solution to the problem.

An author I read (I think it was Robert Reich) theorized that populism and polarization rises whenever the gap in income disparity widens. If he's correct, things are going to get worse before they get better.

I remember thinking when Covid began how people seemed to be acting more compassionately towards understanding. But I think that has run its course. Joe Biden was elected in part on the promise that he would restore civility. That's a tall order for anyone. I wish him luck in his pursuit of this goal.
