Shakespeare had it
the evil lives on
the good is often interred with their bones

people in his own times knew moral courage was not his strong point
sometimes people want courage - sometimes they don't care

Fillmore was basically a failed politician
rejected by party and people more times
got to be president by a twist of fate
wrong man for the job
history is like that

It's the contrast with people like Fillmore that make one appreciate a Lincoln all the more.
