St. Patrick's Day - Potus Geeks Edition

Happy St. Patrick's Day to all of you who have some Irish ancestry. Apparently there were 23 Presidents who had some Irish ancestry, some of whom will surprise you. For three of these (Taft, Harding and Truman), I have been unable to locate which ancestor of theirs lived in Ireland. Here is the list:

the scots-irish were presbyterians from lowland scotland
in the 17th century deliberately "planted" in the Antrim Ulster area to suppress the native population
they were the oppressors - in a series of wars all catholic lands were confiscated.

however, with the establishment of the The Church of Ireland - the anglican state church - they were as disenfranchised as the catholics
leading to leaving for other countries including the US and Canada

That explains a lot. History has the answer to a great many questions about why things happened, and why they are how they are today, including what the Irish call "the troubles".
