I am so grateful that no Sues have stolen the names of the norse gods.

... yet...

Oh please, no... think happy thoughts! No Sues by the name of Freya! Noooo!

Freya! Mimir! (...sadly I DO use this name as a girl's name, even though -yes- it is a beheaded..head of wisdom.)
Frei! Maybe we'll geta Princess Loki soon enough! Though, femenime norse names aren't exactly "pretty" to the minds of sues. (reffering to some of the Valkyrie's names.. they're very.. well, they give me the impression that husky large women that could crush you head like a watermelon would have these types of names.)

That could just be me, though.

Another golden star for norse myths then: their names and images aren't pretty enough to be Sue-ified.

Princess Loki? Who's got the sporks... Better yet, who knows how to contact a sue-crushing vakyrie?

Honestly though, I'd rather use the guy names in Norse Mythology for girl characters sometimes.

I am not joking when I say I haved a priestess in RO named Mimir, yes, after .. the beheaded head of wisdom.

Maybe well get a Verdandi, Skuld, or an Urd! (Personally I think their names are cute, but Verdandi => Belldandy caused me to die slowly on the inside.)

Righto.

My apologies, I recalled a form of the name incorrectly. Totally my fault. :3
Thank you for the correction though! XD

Wait, AMS/OMG? Verdandi (which is one of several spellings anyway) becomes Belldandy mainly through the Japanese writing system. In Japanese: V becomes B, R becomes L, and -- while this is only really important when transliterating it back into English -- 'ra' is sometimes used to represent 'll' and 'rr' as well as L and R.

So, Verdandi would be & is written 'Beradandi.'

Taking it back, it's not hard to get 'Belldandy.'

To be fair, the wrong thing about Princess Loki is that Loki should stay in Norse mythology, not modern-day fandoms. The gender thing doesn't enter into it with him. I mean, he is the mother of Sleipnir and all.

Ah yes, that is correct. I was reffering more to say..
"Princess Loki comes to Hogwartz to fall in loe with Draco omg!11 She has ravenous blue and rainbow hair and sharp opal eyes!11"

That's what I meant. I'm writing a fanfic-crossover myself, with crossdresing Loki (Thor's wedding). Tricksters are genderless. I was just worrying about the characterization...

I don't mind mixing myths and modern branches of writing. Myths are basic symbols after all. But it has to be well done. (I worked a lot on my crosover before I was satisfied with it. I made the characters of my fandom into the norse gods, and had to find a balance between two characters for each of them.)

Don't suppose you ever read the series Fearless, did you? It's about this girl named Gaia who was born without the fear gene. She's a bitchiwitch if I ever saw one. You see, she has all the angst because her mommy died six years ago, and right after that, her most wonderful daddy disappeared, so now she hates him. But then - oh, the drama! - he returns to protect her from his evil identical twin brother Loki!

*headdesk*

And, of course, it goes on from there so she can angst because she can't tell her father and Loki apart. I simply cried. The author slaughtered both a Greek goddess and a Norse god (one of the coolest Norse gods, too, if I might say so myself).

Whoever's up there, save us from incredibly bad science! hoshi_ryo February 21 2004, 16:08:35 UTC
Fear gene? Fear gene?

Gyah. Fear is not genetically related, except in the most technical ways and then it's definitely more than one gene. Additionally, lacking any and all of them tends to result in being quite literally brainless.

In a more practical sense...it's very much psychological in origin.

Oh, don't even get me started on the "science" in Fearless. In the last comment, I was simply talking about the names. There was so much wrong with that story, though, that I don't think anything could redeem it. The science, all of it, was nonexistant, and there were plot holes and Sues galore. It made me cry.
