Today's entry was sent in by an anonymous minion. I'm not sure if they wanted it to be part of the week where I found the names in the title or summary of the fic. My reason for not featuring it for said week happens to be because there was only the first name, it's written way back in 2006 and only has one chapter.

Lily-chan? I'm surprised there aren't more references. That said, why would she have been home schooled since she was eleven? That makes it sound like the letter was sent and her parents decided to pull her from public school so she wouldn't be ridiculed, but because she is Lily's neighbor she must be a Muggleborn as well, which means they couldn't teach her what she needs to know. The only reason to keep her home was because they didn't agree, so why wouldn't they let her come.

Which makes me think of a story where a Muggleborn witch happens to have parents who don't like her being a witch to which they refuse to let her go to school. Eventually though something happens and she is dragged to school to actually learn.

Keep in mind that I haven't read the story, but why would she have to be Muggle-born if she's Lily's neighbor? She could very well have a parent who is a witch or wizard. Also, Snape grew up near Lily, and he certainly isn't Muggle-born.

Does Snape actually count? He was born to a woman who was likely ostracized from her family for marrying a Muggle and his father was a nasty drunk. Even then he ended up attending school. If Mary wasn't a Muggleborn then why did the writer say that Mary was learning how the real magic world works?

You are right in that it is very likely that she is Muggle-born, but it's not reasonable to automatically assume that she is. Your argument was that she is Muggle-born because she is Lily's neighbor; however, there is a case in canon where one of Lily's neighbors is in fact magical. Yes, Snape does count because he is the only neighbor of Lily's (that she had in childhood) that we know of.

One obvious case of a magical child growing up in a non-magical household is Harry. Later on he did have to learn about the magical world.

Again, all I've read so far is Pottersues' post and yours.
