I'm sure glad that every child (except Natalia) gets adopted by age eleven. It sure would suck to never find a loving home and be stuck in a system that never has the money or attention for everyone for another seven years.

My friend actually worked in a children's home for a while. The place sucked, but as far as I know, no child had to sleep on the floor.

In the 1800's there were orphanages that were so full children had to sleep on the floor, but there wasn't any orphanage that didn't have any beds in them. And that's how it is written in this story.
