Must....mock! That story sounds like shite! Well, is shite.
I'm not sure how all of this works, as in if you go out and find the MS HP stories, or if people can report them to you. If you're interested, here is a link to one of the WORST HP stories I've ever, with the most blantant MS, and it's only one chapter long so far. Bleh! http://www.fanfiction.net/read.php?storyid=1293835

Well, I didn't use 'shit' incorrectly - I intentionally used it, and it's pronounced shite (sh-eye-t) --> the way a lot of British people say it. It's a form of 'shit' that is in no way supposed to change the meaning, therefore it's not juvenille.
The whole 'baby jesus' thing is from The Simpsons. Get out more...

Harry makes mistakes. He ISN'T perfect. He even looks rather normal. He has flaws and acts like a normal human being. Mary Sue's, however, do not. And also, da stories are not only about Harry. He has friends and other characters that share da story with him and at times are more important than HE is. Mary Sue's do not. They ARE da story. Harry Potter has a plot. Mary Sue's, on da whole, do not.

Thank you, thank you. I googled "Harry Potter is a Mary Sue" and your post here is the only one that popped up. I agree completely. Harry Potter *is* a Mary Sue.
And to add,
He comes from an incredibly awful childhood but appears to be psychologically untouched by it
He is incredibly famous and admired but at first doesn't know it, then is too wonderful of a guy to get conceited about it
He can save the day when experts around him are absolutely flummoxed (It never occurred to any of the professors at Hogwarts that the creature striking students dead or paralyzed was a basilisk?).
He is repeatedly misunderstood, even by his closest friends. Criticisms of him are never actually valid.
Question About Ms. Figg

Don't we only find out Ms. Figg is a squib there to protect Harry in Book Five and didn't book five come out in June 2003? So how is this already written if this was posted in April of 2003?
Re: Question About Ms. FiggtobiasfliesfreeDecember 28 2009, 15:20:17 UTC
Mrs. Figg was namechecked near the end of Goblet of Fire, when Harry was in the Hospital Wing. At the time, fan speculation was rampant that the Arabella Figg mentioned there without any fanfare was actually the Mrs. Figg who had looked after Harry in book one (which, indeed, turned out to be the case). I remember at least one fic where she taught at Hogwarts Harry's fifth year.

I actually wish it was more common. I think it's a useful word. And then maybe people would STOP USING IT AS THEY DO IN THIS STORY AAARGH!

And yet... it's a damn fun series of stories.
