The problem I find with time-travel is the fact that it is already a complicated plot. I think new authors struggle to write it in a complex way that acknowledges all of the implications of changing the past, therefore it comes off as either convoluted, oversimplified or something that said author loses sight of because they don't plan.

I think the writers who tend to write the plot don't realize how complicated any time-travel story can get.

My biggest peeve with time travel plots involving Tom Riddle is the fact that they always seem to try to assassinate an older teen version of him. Not only do authors commonly make him more powerful than necessary, it almost always boils down to a romance plot with him. Like wouldn't it be more interesting and sensible to have them try to kill the kid version of him, only for some responsible adults to try to protect him? It's not like they can kill said adults because of the possible changes they'd make to the future. Inversely, the ones trying to change him would probably be limited to the ones who didn't experience the future where he's a homocidal cult leader.

Now what I need is a time turner so I can skip by this entry and never know there's a Tom-Hermione-Draco love triangle fic.
