Vinegar tends to work pretty well for a skunking.

Sparky killed a skunk once... which my mother didn't realize until she let him out again the next morning and his first action was to roll on the dead skunk. XD

OH DOGS!

Yeah? I'd bet it does, pretty much any acid or base can work. I might use it then, after I clean up after mom's hydrogen peroxide experiment...according to Myth Busters it's evidently the most effective solution, but she left everything out in the bathroom, including a huge bin of what was left of the stuff she mixed up. And like all the things she used are just sitting around open. fmdksa

(I keep having to interrupt writing this comment to go pet the skunkdog, because there are People Walking Dogs on the street and that is Not Okay with him today, apparently.)

And oh god xD at least he hasn't encountered any dead ones yet. He rolled in a dead squirrel once, so I have NO DOUBT he would roll in a dead skunk if opportunity presented itself.

Just doused him in vinegar (with some baking soda rubbed in first for good measure), it worked like a charm~

At least, everywhere that I was able to get it on him, it did :P it was his third bath in two days, so he fought me the whole way and I ended up just doing the places where he was hit the worst. So I think there's a few spots I missed, but overall he smells like a dog and not a skunk victim now.

My knowledge of this wonderful cure is from having bathed skunkdogs many, many times. I do love living in the country but it has its quirks LOL :P I am super glad Tripper didn't turn out to be some dog with like special snowflake skin/fur that the trick didn't work on, because I'm sure they must exist too. XD Wooo!

(however, for the next week or two the skunky odor may reappear very faintly whenever he is wet, just to warn).
