It was round and soft…Now get back to work.

Hello all. Its been a long time since I've updated, but with patience comes reward. This is the first in a series of entries to show off some of the photographic work I did while I was in Europe. There is no particular order to the set, I'll just be posting about 20 photos I liked for the next few days/weeks, and see what the reaction is like. ( Read more... )

I don't think you went to Europe at all. I think you merely blew me off for all of christmas break so you could copy pictures from corbis and pretend you actually went somewhere better than me. And sadly enough, corbis is better.

If these are real, where are the people?

Art is a catharsis, my dear girl. I try to work out my inherent sociopathy by taking pictures, but I can never completely escape the part of me that wants to be left alone. Sometimes I fantasize about walking around a city completely alone.

Then I remember that a city is built on people, and looking at my own desolate landscapes, I realize how horrifying emptiness can be. I'm still struggling to humanize my work and not get lost in all the fripperies of nice architecture. So, thank you for pointing out my fatal flaw as a photographer. Bitch.

Also, It seems that I randomly picked only pictures that were devoid of people. So I'll post some special photogs just for you, if only to prove that I didn't just do bong rips in my basement for three weeks. Keep in mind I was alone most of the time, and don't care for myspace-style self photography, so there aren't really any pictures of me.

Ryan,

Being a traverser of Europe myself, I have to say that I enjoyed your pictures, even if they solely reminded me of how nice it truly is and how much I enjoyed my summer vacation there.

So, with that said, I'm glad to see that you had a good time, and I hope to hear stories at QFR at some point in the near future.

I enjoyed the pictures, in case you hadn't understood that from my comment.

I agree, there's nothing like travelling. We need to trade some stories of europe next time we meet. Thanks for the compliments, i hope to see you over break.

st stevens green is my favorite; i dont remember seeing that one before.

i like the warmness of the dublin palace photo. dont remember that one before, either...

and although i both remember and like the shot inside the city hall dome, i dont like how the one circle is cut off. composition! (say that in a monotone, british accent and you have my entire first semester as a film major with professor david bowie).

The St. Stephens is my favorite too. You might not remember some of these because you saw the original prints, while I ran these through photoshop. I mostly just color/contrast corrected them, but that can make a big difference sometimes. It makes up for getting them developed at Rite Aid.

I remember it being a pain in the ass to frame the dome, but you're right, I could have done that better. But, I always feel like it takes me too long to shoot as it is. Its hard to balance perfect composition with the fleeting nature of a good picture. WWDBD?

Sincerely,
Flustered in Philadelphia
