Baseball Question

If A. Bartlett Giamatti (you know Oscar nominated Paul Giamatti's daddy) hadn't died twenty years ago, would the owners have eventually ousted HIM instead of Fay Vincent and would baseball be in it's current sorry shape?

I think he would have annoyed the owners now and then, but would have been judged as irreplaceable.

And we might not have had interleague play.
