Well written, my friend. As we get older, we start to understand the justification of rules and procedures. At time, if the balance seems too strict, it's still better than too lenient.

Agreed. I have hated Selig ever since he left the divisions lopsided by moving the Brewers to the National League, but that's nothing compared to the fact that his legacy will be that illegal drug use spiraled out of control on his watch.

In other news, I think Clemens is lying his ass off.

I don't even know what he's sitting on there.

With all the "lidocaine" he's taken there, it's a wonder he can feel whether it's there or not...

Plus, if you're taking lidocaine in the butt, you're not pitching... you're catching!

Very well written. But I wonder if you were able to break it down these days, what percentage of players are about the money or the winning at all costs (perhaps the later more than the former) vs. those who would rather "do it the right way"?

And I'll bet if you asked the steroid users if they felt they were hurting the game I bet their answer would be 'No', even if they honestly did feel the answer was 'Yes' if asked if the would ever gamble on baseball, cork a bat, scuff a ball, etc. In their minds I think they believe it's a personal choice that they make, not something that tarnishes the game as a whole.

I think Selig (and by proxy, the rest of the ownership) largely ignored steroids, HGH and the rest of it because people like McGwire, Sosa, Giambi et. al. brought baseball back. The players were the ones taking the physical (and legal) risks while the owners raked in the bucks.

And personally, I think Clemens is lying. I wish he'd fessed up and gotten it over with. McGwire would probably be in the Hall if he had done the same.
