the best love token I received was from my most recent ex - over the years, I'd been talking on and off about a book I'd read years ago (out of print) that I'd lost and have never been able to find. She found a copy on Ebay and got it for me for Valentine's Day one year.

The worst? A birthday present from the ex-before that - she got me a ring. A ring that was exactly her taste, reflected her spiritual journey and looked great on her (a butch). It looked terrible on me, was very masculine and the symbol on it meant nothing to me. Wow. Thanks for the b-day present that was all about you. ;)

Most of the things people have given me have been clothes. I had one girlfriend bring me back some prayer bracelets from Tibet, but that was at my request.

My ex wife took her engagement ring back to the store about a week after I bought it. It should have been a sign, but I was in love.

One ex-girlfriend gave me flowers, completely unexpectedly and it made my day. I think it was such a big deal because a) we had already broken up and b) she did it because she saw the mood I was in, not because she wanted anything other than to make me smile. Could possibly be one of the best gifts I've ever received...just a few simple flowers.

When I first met my latest girlfriend we were friends and I mentioned to her my love of watches. After we started dating, she called my friends and family to find out what watch I would love the most and presented it to me, saying, "Although it's a small one, I wanted to be able to make your dream come true."
