It is interesting but I don't see how anything involving death would be that useful as an analog. In WoW dying essentially has zero penalty in most situations.

Heck, every player has probably, at some point in the game jumped off a really high cliff just to watch the view on the way down. Or as a shortcut to where you're going (jump, die, resurrect being faster than taking the survivable path).

But if they do start doing experiments in the game it would be interesting to see how.

Yeah I agree, it would be a cool way to survey different reactions, although it would be pretty biased considering the user base. The study in the article doesn't really seem valid at all, especially in light of what you said about the consequences of dying.
