Mainly I just didn't think their song was any good, and they seem to take themselves far too seriously these days. I actually enjoy a lot of their old stuff *ahem* One Love *ahem*.
I was listening to some of the Eurovision songs while in my office (i.e. while procrastinating) -- the Azerbaijan entry wasn't that bad? ^__^;; It wasn't fantastic, but it was fairly pleasant to listen to. I quite liked Blue and TWiiNS. :>:> (and Popular was pretty awful XD;;;;)
The girl in the Azerbaijani duo couldn't sing. It wasn't that bad, but it didn't deserve to win imo.
Blue was okay. Not my type of song, but at least the band is fit lol.
TWiiNS...can't remember their song, so I'm guessing it was unremarkable/they couldn't sing.
The lyrics to Popular are really awful...but it's a catchy song, and Eric is really cute. XD (Though he can't quite sing, either lol)
Jedward were fantastic (lol that's who I meant by the twins btw, not the act that didn't even make it to the finals lmao), and they totally deserved to do better than they did. Except, well, bloc voting lolololololol. Ah well, it's probably for the best, Ireland can't afford to host it next year, anyway, but Azerbaijan can lol.
Lipstick was kind of...idk, over the top? XD The guys sang fairly well, but I didn't much like the song.
I have no idea how Eurovision works, actually, lol;;;;; This was the first time I even listened to the songs (since someone on Facebook linked to the winners). So whoever wins hosts the following year? Also, why are the lyrics of almost all of the song entries English? ;;;;
It's not solely about the songs tbh. It's about the performance as well, and Eurovision is tbh about cheesiness, not about ~pinnacle of music. Hence why idg why people thought the French opera singer was the favourite to win because uh opera is not Eurovision, sry2say. But even though it's not just about the songs...being able to sing counts for a lot for me. And Lipstick is actually like the perfect Eurovision song haha.
Yes. And English is the lingua franca of the ~world rn, that's probably why.

Why did you not want Blue to win? :P

My taste may be a tad questionable, however.

I clicked on the Jedward song after listening to Popular (the accent's a bit adorable ;))...Suddently HIGNFY references make hilarious sense...

XDDDDD I love Jedward, though! ♥ And they were actually one of the acts who could actually sing in-tune XD And their performance was pretty good XDDD
Also, I'm surprised you remember the HIGNFY references! XD Though maybe I just have a particularly poor memory! :S
