:D! Too bad we just missed each other in England, but I'd love to meet up if you come back here any time soon!
There are lots of entry-level jobs (like café, bar, restaurant-type stuff), but most are looking for full-time workers, and my visa doesn't allow me to work full-time during term, so it makes things quite a bit harder for me. :|
It's kind of hilarious how the policy has changed - when I was 17 no-one much gave a fuck and I rarely got ID'd, but now I'm 23, working, and dressed in smart clothes rather than looking like an alcoholic hobo/student I get checked all the fucking time. Bless 'em.
Economy is serious fail so jobs are hard as hell to come by, basically. ;; Good luck!
There are loads of low-level work here (like bar or café work), but a lot of them are looking for full-timers, and my visa doesn't allow me to work full-time during term, so the number of jobs for which I can apply is like essentially fifthed :(
I got asked for ID when I was 30... even though I was never asked when I was 18! The rules have just got stricter, I guess. Being refused when you go to buy a peeler is a bit much though!
I commented on this post... but LJ seems to have eaten the comment. Weird. Anyway, I'll try again!
Congrats on the win!
I was asked for ID for the first time when I was 30! They never asked when I was 18, but the rules have tightened up since then... I guess I should have been glad they thought I looked so young (and it was only for under 21s then!) but it just annoyed me.
Having to produce ID to buy a peeler is a bit over the top though! I can't see that being anyone's weapon of choice!
The ID process is mostly annoying to me because I don't want to carry my passport around everywhere. T_T
XD One of my housemates was confused, too, until I explained that I wanted to buy a "traditional" peeler, the kind with the sharp point. I've tried using the other kind and am horribly bad at it...:3 The potato peelers are, like, non-existent in the US!

Why would you have to be 25 to buy wine?

Ah, I didn't know that part... I've only been carded once, and that was when I was 18 or 19 in a pub. Thanks for the info!

Sorry you're needing to look for a job at the moment though, I hear from all my friends still in Leeds there's none around ;____;
