Censorship on Digg
Censorship is something with which I am very uncomfortable, and I am especially angry when I see it on internet sites like Digg, which are seen as a way to get noteworthy items out that tend to be ignored by major media.

Mid-February, a post about youtube pulling Anoynymous's message to CoS that has nearly 1300 diggs was buriedRead more... )

I am always confused by the extent of your involvement in bandom! You mention it some times, but you never really rec fics for it and stuff, so I'm always super confused.

I have a thing for best friends pairings, too, or even pairings with a long friend-ish history. Alas, Ryan and Spencer aren't ghei in the way Brendon and Ryan are. :( I think I've found only two really meaty Ryan/Spencer fics. I am very sad to have left Frank/Gerard and Pete/Patrick behind.

I remember that post! I don't really like bandom het, though, so yeah...Which pairings do you like? Or even what type of AU's? I've read a lot and found quite a few good ones, so maybe I can link you to some.

! May I just say that your fic All In Your Mind is, to me, the definitive Ryan/Spencer fic. I stayed up until 3 or 4 reading it, and it was definitely a fic that made me hurt in the best way possible.

Thank you so much for the recs! I've seen them all already, unfortunately. :(

I know that you and I have our differences about Project Chanology and Anonymous in general, but I do want to ask these in complete honesty. The goal of PC is to shut down the CoS, right? (and correct me if I'm not!) If it succeeds, does it have plans to account for the many, many stocks and holdings that the CoS owns? The buildings and businesses? The members who, though perhaps from an outside point of view "scammed" into joining the Church, pay considerable entry and member fees? The members who are devout believers and will be displaced spiritually and socially (to varying degrees) if the CoS collapses from an external force? If PC is doing this in earnest, I may be more willing to think about the Digg incident and others in the light of free speech. If not, then the whole project is unethical and possibly illegal and I would, in fact, support YouTube's pulling of the video.

Sorry to direct these questions to you and not, say, Wikipedia! But I'm trying to keep my blood pressure down ;)

No, it's okay!

The goal of PC is indeed to shut down CoS. I am not aware of plans for the first three, but as for the last, there is a project to set up safe houses for those who want to leave the CoS, and there is already an organization of Scientologists who do not practice within the CoS. The focus of the project has mainly been on the actual task and not the consequences, but you bring up really good points. There is likely an assumption that much of the financial structures will probably resolve themselves, especially since the project is somewhat attempting to involve the government. (Which gives me misgivings, but that's mainly my own views about government.)

I won't defend Anonymous because their actions aren't always...legitimate, but I think PC is a good project and something that should be done.

That seems like a badass site.

I used to love to write fanfiction, and then I just ran out of time, and realized that I liked other people's writing far more than mine and gave it up. I wrote a whoooooole lot of Final Fantasy 8 fanfictions. Good luck with yours!

Are you in spring break right now too?

haha, thanks. I'm lazy, though. Not on spring break - finals are next week. -_-
