I don't care. Maybe this makes me a bad person. London happened. That's it. We can't change it. There's no point in worrying about something in the past.

I'd like to point everyone to this entry. A good look at the U.S. media, including Fox, who reports 700 deaths when it's only in the 30's.

meh, the world is not right, recs:lj

Wow, thank you. You're like the only other person who feels the same way as I do. To tell the truth, all this wangsting about London is beginning to piss me off, because so much other shit happens in this world. So many people die on a daily basis, like in Iraq, or in Africa, and just because it's whoopdydoofuckingLondon there's a huge stir in the media and suddenly people are angsting and saying "oh no, not London! Anywhere but London! Leave London alone!"

Yeah, I know what you mean. There wasn't this big of a deal on my flist with the Madrid bombings - even Iraq didn't get that much attention. Nor Afghanistan, and all those wars/hardships in Africa? NOTHING. I can't even find that much coverage over those - no one cares, and that's the problem. Those places have it worse, and we pretend that we are all altruistic and stuff, but really, most people have no clue about things that don't concern the U.S./Europe.

...well, it may be 'in the past', but in was still...well, today.

I can understand you not caring; it wasn't your city. I was worried sick most of the day as my dad was working in London today.

Most people here aren't wangsting about it. The general attitude in London is 'carry on as normal'.

It's a shame the american media is blowing it out of proportion.

The thing is - I didn't see this much about Madrid. I don't see anything about Africa. We only care about things that matter to us - if it's halfway around the globe, we don't give a fucking shit, and that's what makes me unhappy. The London bombing is on a small scale when it comes to number of deaths, but it's being blown out of proportion while the media doesn't report about all the shit going on Africa (all those ethnic wars and stuff? I see reports about it maybe once a month, if I'm lucky, and they have it so much worse.)

I mean, it's good to know that people I know and their families are safe, but I just feel that it's being so blown out of proportion.

And I like the attitude in London. I'd hate for these bombings to be another excuse to go to "war".

Mm. We got a lot on our news about Madrid, but I guess that's because it's so close to us.
I understand that it's unfair that some things get more media attention than others. It's not fair. But why does that make what happened in London not worth caring about? The bomb on the bus resulted in one person being blown to several pieces. There was blood splattered over the surrounding buildings.

It was still orchestrated terrorism. It might not have been on as large a scale as other atrocities, but there are still dead people. D:

It's not that it's not worth caring about because you're right, a tragedy is still a tragedy, and death is still death. It's just that to me, it's not as worth the whole hullabaloo.

For me, Britain is a civilized country and all that jazz - I feel less for them than for Africa, which was messed up because of countries like Britain, you know? It's easier for first-world countries to deal with stuff like this, and we should be focusing our attention to real crises.

I grew up in China, so I sort of have a bias towards many European countries that were imperialistic during those days, particularly what we call the "eight allied forces", which includes Britain, so. :3 And I'm sort of apathetic toward everything in general, but Britain moreso than Africa, I suppose, since they are sort of in the same boat as us.

It's still a pretty big deal to the media. Fodder. Commerce. War. What can you do? It's the human nature ( ... )

By the way, "America, on the other hand, had Pearl Harbor and 9/11" is supposed to have an "only" in front of "had." Because yeesh, how often do we get any battle on our soil?

As a second note, that's *their not "there" parents. Serves me right for waking up late and writing about bombings first thing.

I can see what you mean.

Just that it seems to be blown way out of proportion to me, this whole business.

heh. I read a funny thing about Blair/Bush and how it interrupted their time together. I was amused.

Fox is...very biased and rather meh.

CNN has so little news coverage over stuff, though - Yahoo usually has a lot of articles, so I prefer them more now.
