Aang takes a deep cleansing breath, shifting his feet in the sand and wriggling his toes between the grains. The September air has just enough bite for him to be uncomfortable, but he'll be overwarm once they start so there's no point in fetching a coat or a sweater.

Zuko is staring him down with a determination that Aang hasn't seen in him since they were young, but he's missed sparring with his 'brother'...

sorry, for my delay! im_good_now September 13 2010, 02:00:00 UTC
Zuko watched Aang take his stance and focused on the line of his body. He was loath to admit that it was a good form and considering that this Aang seemed to have a lot more time to work on his own skills, Zuko evaluated his surroundings quickly before reminding himself of what the dragons and the Sun Warrior tribe taught him.

He waits for the first move.

no worries! <3 water_whipped September 13 2010, 02:12:58 UTC
Katara leaned forward, watching with a mixture of jealousy and morbid curiosity, reminded instantly of the days before the comet, waking up early to watch Aang and Zuko train. She was almost sorry Zuko didn't have those memories; it might have afforded him at least the advantage of familiarity.

Aang's training had pushed him to always strike first, and though personal instinct steered him toward not striking at all he had learned well from his mistakes and followed his teaching first.

Pushing forward with the strongest root stance he could manage in the sand he sweeps a low strike for the first opening Zuko presents to him (narrow that it is). He does not bother to charge his fist with flame until he's inches from connection, not wasting a second of energy on maintaining a flame on approach.

His access to the fire has always been this way. Brief and intense. It's difficult to maintain his control for long periods and his fighting has adapted to suit him as such. It's a little strange to an onlooker used to the way most masters bend, maintaining their control in a steady flow. Aang can do this with none of his elements but air, but raw power makes up for so very much in the end.
