Jan had been on edge for days. She smoked more and ate less, biting at her nails nervously until Hank came back. He had a right to be angry. She wished he had been more angry. Instead, he had just been sad and Hank didn't deserve that. She couldn't exactly say why what happened with Clint happened only that she really didn't plan on it. She was very happy with Hank, more happy than she had been in so long, and she had really fucked up this time.

"Welcome back."

Jan stood behind him, close enough that she could reach out and touch him but she didn't. He probably wanted some space. She respected that, even if she wanted to him and tell him that it was okay, she was the bad one, and it wasn't his fault.

Hank wasn't surprised really when she came in behind him, but still he froze up a little. He didn't know how he was going to react or what was going to happen now, and honestly he was afraid of it... More afraid of himself and what he might do than what Jan might say.

He wanted to be angrier, to actually feel betrayed or something, and in some ways he did, but he couldn't be mad. He'd screwed up so many times, strung her along, hurt her just because he didn't pay enough attention to what really mattered... He couldn't ever blame her for deciding she wanted to be with someone else. It'd be better for her... He honestly believed that.

But he was also selfish, and didn't want to lose her again.

"I'm sorry it took longer than I expected." He set down what he was working on, but didn't turn around just yet. "I didn't mean to make you wait."

"It's okay."

She finally put her hand on his back. Jan wasn't sure how to make this better but she would try.

"I'm sorry."

He jumps at little at the hand on his back... It was familiar and very much welcome, but at the same time he wasn't sure he should be allowing himself to feel comfort in her touch right now.

"It's okay."

He finally turns around to face her, wrapping his arms around her loosely.

"You don't have to apologize for anything."
