Sucky RPG motivations:

My first response was Legend of Dragoon (PS1), but then I realized that as much as I love it, it does work on those premises. In fact, it does all of them at once. Which goes to show it can be done well, but that may not be successful. I'm still, like many others, waiting for Legend of Dragoon 2 ( ... )

I took a look at the Hero's Journey paradigm. I've seen it expressed in different ways, usually as an analysis of either character stereotypes or plot devices. I think that the economics of a RPG tend to lend itself to this style of play ( ... )
