Beep...Beep...Beep Dennis groaned and rolled over, turning off his alarm. "Bloody hell," he grumbled. Another 5 am. Sighing, he sat up in bed and placed his feet on the floor. He didn't want to be up, which was obvious by his state of half sleep.
"I miss sleeping in. I miss running to class," he listed as he slowly made his way to the loo. "I miss Orla." It hadn't even been 24 hours, but Dennis missed seeing his girlfriend at breakfast. Maybe I'll surprise her at the Leaky next week. he thought as he stripped out of his boxers and stepped into the shower.
The water was warm, but heated up quickly. Dennis liked the idea of surprising his girl at work. Birds like things like that right? He really had no idea and he wasn't about to ask his mates for advice or his dad. Washing his body quickly with soap, Dennis debated with himself for a moment, thinking it might be a bad idea. By the end of his shower, he decided that seeing Orla, even as a surprise was far better than not seeing her at all.
Stepping out of the shower stall, Dennis used a drying spell so he could dress quickly. He had never used magic at home before, but now that he could, he planned to as much as possible. He wanted to work on his charms and transfiguration over the summer, since he won't have Orla studying with him all the time. He did better this year than any other year and he wanted to keep it that way.
Dennis dressed in denims and a t-shirt, taking a sweater with him, since the outer pastures tended to be chillier than the main buildings. He went down stairs and greeted his mum with a smile.
"You're up!" she said. "I expected you to sleep in this morning." She crossed to her son and kissed him on the cheek. Dennis rolled his eyes; she was always like that when he and Colin came home, at least for the first few days. Now, it lasted a week, minimum.
"Nah, want to get work in so I can have an afternoon off next week to see Orla." His mum gave him a watery smile, one that said, 'Look, my baby's all grown up.' "That is if Dad can spare me."
"Will you need the truck?"
Dennis shook his head. "Nah, passed by apparition exam and since I'm of age, I can use magic anytime I want." Frowning, his mother gave him another kiss on the cheek and a hug before reminding him to be careful. He nodded and took a slice of toast to hold him over until 8, when they would all stop for breakfast.
"See you in a few hours," he called, walking out of the house and towards the barn, where another boring day at the dairy would begin.
