'Trigger's a fat oaf,' Verity chuckled, bending down to scritch him lovingly behind his drooping ears. They were neither floppy nor upright, a hybridization of his breeding which still alluded Verity. Trigger looked like an Alsatian with the colouring of a Ridgeback and the thick tufts of spinal hair to prove it. His ears were perpetually caught in a struggle to both stand up right and hang at the same time like a labrador, a genetic influence which also softened his muzzle to something between pointed and stubbed. His long legs and large feet always dragged in laziness and age but his tail never lost the vibrant energy of a pup. Especially when food was mentioned.

He was also getting old though and his tongue never seemed to stay in his mouth. He was Verity's baby and oldest and most precious friend. She didn't know what she was going to do without him when he finally passed away.

'But I agree. Except I want gelato. Is that okay?

"Now, now, he's not that bad, isn't that right, buddy?" Dean had grown very attached to Trigger over the past few months. He too would be very sad when the old dog passed on, no where near what Verity would be, but still sad nonetheless.

"Gelato's fine. Trigger might not like it though," he teased, kissing her quickly before scratching Trigger behind the ears.

Verity watched amused as Dean gave Trigger nearly as much attention as he gave her. 'Sometimes I wonder who you're dating,' she teased, though not at all seriously. It was important to her that Dean liked Trigger. Unlike Captain Jack and Mr. Tumnus who virtually took care of themselves, Trigger was always with Verity. He was more important to her than anything in the world as was his approval. Right next to her father's, a man Dean still needed to meet.

'Come on. We can get gelato at the sweets shop.'

"Well, don't you know I'm using you for the dog?" He teased, following her towards the sweet shop. Dean loved animals and even if he didn't, no one could resist Trigger's charm, unless they were out of their minds. "All right, m'lady. Anything else you want at the sweet shop?" He knew her far too well to think gelato was all that she would want.
