Lavender had met her mother for lunch in London, as she was returning from Paris, finally, after their argument over her job and flat. Her mother had a habit of giving her frivolous presents that she didn't need (or want) every time she came back from France, particularly after they quarreled. The last time had been hats, and Lavender expected something similar.

Instead, she got a dog.

Granted, it was a tiny, fluffy, adorable little thing that she immediately named Pompom. But that was not the point. Her mother gave her a dog. A living, breathing creature that most Muggle flats didn't allow to live in their complexes. This totally ruined her plans ( ... )

Zach was going at an easy pace when the dog coming towards him suddenly lurched further into his path. He veered to miss it and thankfully the owner also jerked the dog back but Zach couldn’t help but stumble a little. Zach didn’t fall but stopped to look a the little fur ball that had nearly done him in.

“No worries, dogs can be a little unpredictable I’m guessing.”

He looked up at the owner and recognized her from school; able to relax Zach gave her an easy grin.

“How are you doing Lavender? I didn’t know you had a dog.”

Lavender laughed. Unpredictable was a good word to describe her current situation. "My mum just gave her to me. I have no idea what I'm doing with it," she said.

She recognized Zach as soon as she had looked up from her advert, but sometimes, out in the Muggle world, she was never sure if she was seeing the person or a Muggle person who looked like them. "I'm doing well, Zach," she said, lightly adjusting her scarf. "How are you?" she asked. He'd been a bit of a git sometimes at school, but other times, Zach was nice enough.

Plus, he was kinda cute in running clothes. She'd have to tell Parvati - they'd just been talking about cute blond boys from school the other day.

Zach couldn’t imagine if someone had just up and given him a dog how he would react but it seemed to suit Lavender pretty well so it must not be that bad. He bent over to scratch the little dogs head.

“Good to hear, it was such a nice day I had to get out of the house and enjoy it. That and it was better than stressing over the NEWTs scores we’re all waiting on.”

He hoped he sounded casual considering how worked up he had been getting lately about it.

“Other than, that I am doing just fine, been working in Diagon Alley so that keeps me busy.”
