Renard tapped his quill against the parchment as he waited for Lucius and Rabastan to arrive. He was trying to write a report on a series of experiments he had been doing on whether Boil-Cure potions were more effective with different types of snake fangs. Granted, it was quite a simple undertaking, but it had yielded some rather interesting results, and Renard was wondering whether it would be worth investigating that particular area of research more fully. A theory was beginning to form in his mind about whether a change in the type of snake fangs he used would improve the efficacy of potions which cured other skin ailments.

He caught sight of the clock as he gazed around the room; for some reason the actual writing of the report was not coming easily to him, but there was no point settling with a book and a cup of tea, or doing anything else that might distract him and allow his subconscious mind to work through the problem. His guests would be there soon, and he disliked being interrupted when he was in the middle of something. So instead he contented himself with sitting in front of a desk cluttered with parchment, various jars of potions ingredients, and old quills, and trying to write.

Upon noticing that it was almost time for his appointment with Lucius and Rabastan, Renard stood and made his way to the kitchen, waving his wand over the kettle and Summoning two mugs and a tea cup. He wasn't sure whether Rabastan would want anything to drink, but if he was anything like Lucius, he would enjoy coffee more than tea. Renard charmed the kettle so that it would pour boiling water into the three cups when it had boiled, and Summoned a tea-tray. He didn't have a house-elf, partly because his family had done perfectly well without one, and partly because he preferred his solitude and would not want to share his home with one of the creatures.

With the drinks made and set down in the sitting room, Renard sat down on the settee and waited for his guests to arrive, flicking through a potions journal.
