"Mother of Circe and all things sacred. What the--" Rabastan kept his wand raised to the window. There was a large smudge on the glass. He didn't have to wait long until the owl that had collided with it resurfaced, flying in circles until he let it in. There were two letters, but only one was addressed to him and he was not in the habit of reading other people's mail. It was rude. Regardless, he shut the creature in so it could not escape.

Rod,

It's true; he's all the rage recently, it seems. You are right, of course. Safe travels.

"Deliver your other letter and take that," he rumbled as he opened the window again. Merlin knew where Rodolphus had sent it from if it was crashing into windows. Rabastan frowned, taking that into account. Where was he?

Rodolphus was off in another part of the clearing lazily splitting wood (the villagers out this way were a superstitious lot and if he didn't already go around healing their animals they'd be a lot more so) when the owl landed several feet away, obviously exhausted.

'Who is it, who is it?!'

"It's your dear brother-in-law," Rodolphus answered once the letter was open. He stopped when a photograph fell into the snow, face up. Rodolphus went stock still, unable to not look into the face of his beloved--not when it was still warm and young and healthy. "Incendio!" he bellowed, burning the photograph and melting the snow beneath. "What does that fool think he's playing at?!"

He replied immediately.

Dearest Brother,
I don't know what kindness you thought you were bestowing with the photograph, but Bellatrix and I were not amused at all. And mum and dad said you had more tack. Regardless, where can we meet? I'll be on my way later tonight.

"Till, fix the damn bird," Rabastan called, looking at the way it had crashed on his bedroom floor.

"Bellatrix and I," he read aloud, wincing at the letter. He had almost forgotten the toll all of this had taken on Rodolphus. Or maybe he had just hoped that minor detail would fade away and leave him be.

My apologies, brother. Our sister-in-law thought it might help for you to see yourselves

He made a point of including Bella in the letter. There was no need to antagonise Rod further.

before we too spent our time in the oubliette. Our parents said a lot of things. Kings Cross, Muggle side. I'll be hovering.

Rabastan

"No, you are taking this back," he informed the tired owl, prodding it with the handle of his wand. "Go on, bugger off."

'See love, he didn't mean any harm. Cissy was just trying to be nice.'

Rodolphus huffed a little, letting the owl rest and eat it's fill of mice he'd caught in the cottage while he replied.

Apology more than accepted. Next time mention Narcissa, it would mean the world to Bella to know her sister still thinks of her. Kings Cross, muggle side it is. I'll see you soon.
Rod

He let the owl rest until late evening, when it would fly out for the hunt.

"Go, my pet, and if my brother tries to kick you out, roost nearby."

Fenrir returned to the docks for a change of clothes the morning before his first day at work. The uniform called for white collared shirt and tie. Though he was only supposed to work on the lights, any public appearances he made as an employee of the Royal Opera House were to be formal. After all, it was the holidays and they were gearing up for a series of performances.

He spotted the piece of paper on the deck of Nessy. Carefully approaching it, he took the identified letter and opened it. A message from one of the Lestrange brothers. How thoughtful.

Looking around, he didn't see the owl who had carried the message. Obviously it hadn't waited around for his reply, it had probably been delivered days ago. Shrugging, he stuffed the letter into his coat. Lacking an owl, he had no means to reply at the moment. Besides, the Malfoys should be able to put them all in contact with each other.
