Dennis did not sleep well at all. Tossing and turning all night, his dreams were plagued with nightmares and memories. It was Christmas and Dennis was handing Orla her gift, but soon it shifted to the Colin's first year at Hogwarts. He didn't come home that year because he had been petrified. The dream showed him walking down the stairs and catching his mother crying as she filled up Colin's stocking. Feeling guilty of seeing his mother cry, he sneaked back up the stairs. Instead of going to his own room, he went into his brother's and climbed into his bed.
Then the dream shifted to Dennis' first day at Hogwarts and look on Colin's face when he walked in wearing Hagrid's coat. He was happy and he could see the light in his eyes as he bounced and move trying to see over the older students to see the sorting. Smiling when the hat announced Gryffindor, he knew Colin was the one clapping the loudest at the table.
The scene faded to years later and Colin limping out of class with the Carrows. Dennis asked if he was alright. Colin didn't answer. When he looked back, the scene had changed again and he was staring down at the body of his older brother. His eyes were closed, but when Dennis leaned down to touch Colin's face, his eye popped open.
Jerking awake, Dennis was covered with sweat and breathing in pants. He looked back at the clock. It was 7:26. He could heard the other boys in the room moving around getting ready to head off to breakfast, but Dennis wasn't hungry. In fact, he didn't feel like talking or seeing anyone. Waiting until the room cleared, Dennis got out of bed and walked to the showers where he stood under the water, his mind trying to figure out why he was thinking of Colin. Things are good. Grades are up. I've got Orla. He didn't think it had anything to do with Fenrir Greyback escaping, but it could. The werewolf was there at the last battle.
Once the water turned cold, Dennis stepped out of the shower and rushed back to the boy's dormitory to dress. By the time he was ready for class, he had missed breakfast and he was soon going to be late for class. Tossing his bag over his shoulder, he quickly walked to his morning class, slipping into his seat right in time.
"Pop quiz." The entire room groaned as they pulled out parchment and ink, pushing aside books. Dennis wrote his name and the class at the top of the page as well as the date. November 26, 1999. Staring at the day, he realized he missed his brother's birthday. By six months. he thought, scolding himself for missing it. How did I miss it? OWLs, going back to the dairy. Trying to plan the future. Feeling disgusted with himself, Dennis leaves his pop quiz blank. Some good brother, I am..
