Ron came in, his face glum as he stood his turn in line. He barely noticed the woman asking him what he wanted to eat, and shrugged with a nod at her suggestion. He got a piece of fruit, and pumpkin juice and made his way through the register, to head for the first table he saw open. He paused, and lifted his head to catch sight of Harry sitting on his own. He raised his chin when he caught Harry's eye and moved over to take a seat across from him.

Ron looked at his food, took a deep sigh, and began poking at it stew, sniffing it and wrinkling his nose a bit, "Well, this isn't like Mum's at all. I guess I better add stew to the list of things to learn to cook, although, I'm not sure why I bother," he said rather dejectedly, "I'd hate to burn that stuff too. Can you image how that would stink up the place? Those cookies were okay; if I burned stew, I bet it would smell, and taste terrible."

"Ron," Harry said, when Ron sighed deeply. "What's the matter?"

Before he could get a serious answer from Ron, he started talking about the stew. Harry guessed that meant Ron didn't want to talk about it. "Always thinking about food, eh?" he teased.

"I think you'd do alright with stew. It cooks slow, I think, and less chance of sticking when something's in a pot over flames than in an oven, I think," Harry said. At least, he didn't know much about cooking, but Kreacher never seemed to have a problem with anything much. Harry didn't like that Kreacher always seemed to want to wait on him, but there wasn't much he could do unless he made sure to start dinner while Kreacher was in another part of the house... he'd gotten pretty good at knowing where Kreacher was these days, though, so he could have the run of the kitchen when Kreacher was cleaning or organizing the library or tending to the garden.
