How do you do this? How do you take these fringe pairings, this mesh of characters on the periphery, and make them so damn vital and interesting and amazing? These are both really fine, but that second one has my heart in my throat. Such beautiful writing. What a fucking great way to start off the day.
Fascinatingly complicated. I liked the style of the first snippet, especially this: It is an undeniable narrative fault of this story that there was no sufficiently detached observer to comment on the irony of the fact that if anyone was to blame for the change it was Kirk. The irony happened anyway. -- it's a fabulous narrative voice. I loved the Winona you depict in both.
