I'm up for anything so you can count me in on any of your plans! Haven't looked at the website but if you think it looks good then I am all for it. Can you tell that I am tired???
I took hubby there on his birthday once, about 15 years ago. These places are a chain - a franchise? - in the states. For a real English woman, it might be cheesy beyond belief. When I was there, we sat in a very large room reminiscent of an indoor athletic stadium. There was a ledge in front of us that held our food, as it was served. We were entertained, but it just depends on what your tastes are. I'll see what SubHub remembers about it - his memory is better than mine. It seems as if they divided us up and some of us were support to root for (cheer for?) one of the competing knights, whilst the other group supported the other one. It's silly, but good fun, as I recall.
These are chain "dinner-theater" type places located throughout the US. They tend to be family oriented. I've never been to one. If you want a taste of the area, you need to go to fort worth or hit up the mesquite rodeo.
You want to hit up a coubtry -western dance hall, if nothing for the experience. You won't have that in England.
The Kennedy Memorial is a disgrace.
I live in the Dallas area. Frankly there isn't much there except tons of golf courses and shopping malls. Arlington is full of amusement type events- 6 flags, water parks, wax meusums- that stuff. Think Brighton but on a bigger scale, no beach, and hot as hell temps.
Well, it's beginning to sound as though there are better things to do with the money.
I'll go with any recommendations on local colour. (Shopping is definitely on the cards - this may sound pathetic, but the idea of shopping without children and without husband is making me drool.) I am sure the people in charge of the partying will have some good ideas - it's just that Pythia Delphi and I will be there from 8th-15th, so we have a little extra time to do non-Portus things.
And, with respect, I hadn't planned on the Dead President tour. Though Mr Dicky went to the Sixth Floor museum last year and said it was interesting.
I am giving up on spelling and writing correctly in LJ- at work and this is fast...
If you like art, I recommend the museums of Fort Worth. The Kimball may have something interesting and there is a western art muesum that is worth the trip. When in Ft Worth, eat mexican food at JT Garcia's.
If you are game, the restraunts in Ft. Worth serve Rocky Mountain Oysters...you wont get that in the UK.
The Dallas Art Muesum is OK.
Don't waste your time going to Fair Park, the science muesum is very child focused and it shows (its all rather broken). Plus it's in a dodgy part of town.
Shopping- depends what you are looking for. Want bargains? Hit up thrifts and consignments in the ritzy Park Cities, or suburban Plano. Dallas is heavily single female (read shallow divorcees with fake boobs) and therefore clothing horseys who dump good stuff.
I've heard people say it was good, but then I've heard people say it was bad. Someone said they'd been to this one and it was very stifling. Not sure what month that was or if some ac was broke or something. But all the same, I want to see you, my dear. :) We shall have to hook up.

Yes, I want to meet you, too. How the buggery bollocks are we all going to find each other?! I get the impression that Portus is going to be huge...
