knittin' & writin' stuff

Tonight I finished the cute baby hat and got about half a sock done. I did a whole sock last night in the same cotton the hat is made in - red with a green stripe, but it proved too bulky for the small diameter of the sock, so I ripped it all out. Luckily I found I still had some very fine baby merino I bought last year to knit a scarf with, and ( Read more... )

Would you believe, the lacy thing I am working on right now uses a pattern at least as simple as the one you're working. Probably simpler! I think that is one of the magics of knitting, things look deceptively difficult to non-knitters ;)

I like the look of that scarf. And your fruity hat came out absolutely gorgeous. I've seen those touched up with little black dots sewn on after, to make it a definite strawberry, but I like your "whichever" hat as it is. Imagination! Can't quite believe you are doing baby socks though ;)

So glad you're getting writing prompts from the universe. So far lately the only inspiration I've had is that the amusing Swedish names for IKEA furniture would make good character names for a pulpy fantasy novel. If I do nanowrimo this year I might have to do that. And then get sued. Your sentence is lovely and seems like a good start.

I can't believe I'm knitting baby socks either! But not botees - definitely not bootees!

The hat was fun & very easy to make once I'd worked out the CWA-style instructions. I'm a more experienced knitter than i thought.

Nanowrimo - I still haven't got round to that. I was going to do the novel a year - you het twelve months to write the thing but like nanowrimo, you post regular episodes. I think maybe just trying to do 4 short stories a year would be enough of a challenge! I like the idea of IKEA-style character names.

I'd say you were experienced! You've been knitting intermittently for years and obviously hoarding all the information and muscle memory along the way. Maybe if I make big puppy dog eyes you'll knit me an adorable little hat one day ;)

When I finish hats for the girls, & scarves for my mountain friends, I could consider doing another hat. If I could do the maths I'd work out how to make you a cherry tomato hat! That size is for newborns.
