Hi Portia... my Google news alerts directed me to your LiveJournal.... I know how you feel about cooking for one, let me tell you! But don't stop doing it... I think it's good for the soul. And your food sounds divine! best, Stephanie Elegant Sufficiency
Cooking for one is hard, but it sounds like you're making the best of it. Even cooking for two gets tiring. My brother and his girlfriend came over for dinner the other night and I was astonished how much easier it was to make portions for four.
Let me know what you think about Gordon Ramsay. A. is a huge fan (I tease her that it's because he always takes his shirt off, but I think it's more because of his language) even though he basically always says the same thing, which is to use simple recipes and good-quality local produce and customers will be happy. In the US, all the fun profanity gets bleeped, but I still like it. BBC America also shows The F Word, his sort of food variety show, and it's even better than Kitchen Nightmares, especially because you get to see him being cute with his adorable little kids while raising animals to eat! I'm not saying any of it will change your life, but there are certainly worse things you could watch on television.
I loved the Gordon Ramsay show! After a while I didn't even notice the swearing - the constant beeping it out would be much more annoying. It was the best sort of reality show - I was absolutely on the edge of my seat for much of the time.
Sadly, he didn't take his shirt off in this episode, even though they were at the seaside in Brighton.
We haven't had The F Word here yet, but I'll look out for it. he might yet prove as cuddly as Jamie Oliver!

Later today I plan to make a sort of pesto with the oregano that's growing so healthily on my verandah.
