Sleepy Earthworms

Well, they aren't any more. But that's what I feel like this morning-- one of the earthworms curled tight in its winter bed of tomato roots, uncurling grudgingly when the remains of the plant have been uprooted. It was soooo good seeing you. I never forget how much I love you, even when we don't talk for ages, but getting to spend time with you is a special gift.

Your pickled sour cherries that you gave us some time ago were absolutely delicious. I loved them on pork and on ice cream, separately not together.:)

I've seen some pretty rough rolling at aikido and I bet you're better. What I find interesting are the people who can't roll forward at all. We have some people who roll forward basically completely sideways like a log instead of a wave. I found it helped me to think of kicking out towards the ceiling when I went backwards. For people who collapse forward we roll over the exercise ball to hold form. It'll happen someday.:)

A long time ago I was a graduate student in Chemistry at Berkeley. One day I was trotting up the stairs in Lewis Hall carrying a nine pound bottle of concentrated sulfuric acid. I tripped, started to fall, and rolled sideways to land on my back with the bottle on my front. Was I ever happy with this result!

Sometimes, without training, one has to improvise.
