Tell me something wonderful.

Jul 08, 2009 16:35

I've been out of town and away from the computer for over a week. My time was spent in the company of good people in an interesting place having lovely conversations and tasty, tasty food. In the meantime, other things happened.

Tell me what I've missed.

It finally rained up here on the mesa rather than just sprinkling a little and the high desert has bloomed.

Come see.

I'm still trying to figure out how and when I can get there.

That might explain why SF had such weather, it was like I brought Vancouver with me.

We're working on our aim, though.

From www.ted.com: "Artist Theo Jansen demonstrates the amazingly lifelike kinetic sculptures he builds from plastic tubes and lemonade bottles. His creatures are designed to move -- and even survive -- on their own."

Other good news, from cbc.ca: "An HIV/AIDS vaccine developed in Canada has passed safety tests in animals and the researchers are awaiting approval to begin human trials in the U.S."

I recently gave someone a mini-lecture on Theo Jansen, mentioning they need to check out the TED. One of these days, I plan to catch up on all of them.

The Theo Jansen video is nothing short of beautiful. And ted.com looks like a treasure trove of ideas, one which I'm going to have to investigate in greater detail soon.

Eee! That's so exciting! I'm thrilled you found one you love! It was sounding a bit dire there for awhile. Plus, what a birthday present!
