★ GReeeeN (singles)
This has been coming for months but this is the first time I'm posting my newfound love in music - GReeeeN. Made up of four members who were all studying dentistry at the same university when they made their label-debut in 2007, two are working as dentists and one is still in university. They have never shown their faces in public ever and have one performance to their name, where their faces were censored. Still, despite the lack of promotion from performances, they have established themselves as one of the best-selling groups in Japan in recent years. The last two of their three albums have sold about a million copies and Kiseki holds Japan's Guiness Record for being the most downloaded song. Gawd I love Japan.
I discovered them early this year when Haruka was released and the single just BLEW ME AWAY. It was so unexpected because I thought their style would be like the song they wrote for NEWS, weeeek. My ignorant friend tried to tell me after listening to one song that "GReeeeN sounds like Jpop. So like, DDR." - THEY MOST CERTAINLY DO NOT!!! I have great difficulty classifying and describing their music (more than usual ^^;;) but it's probably something like J-pop and J-rock. Gosh, they get their own genre really, though! I'm especially impressed with the musical arrangement as well as the depth of sound to their songs. I really hope to complete their 320kbps discography some day. :) Uploaded here are two singles released 1 year minus 1 day apart and very difference in style. For those who don't know GReeeeN, I sincerely hope one of these strikes a chord with you. Kiseki was used in the dorama, Rookies, and (along with the download record mentioned) was one of the highest selling singles of last year (so a favourite among many). But my personal favourite single is Haruka which was used in the Rookies movie. Enjoy~ ♥ (...I heard the news that they're releasing a Best compilation album on November 25th. SO EXCITED!)
