★ Cubic U/Utada (albums)
Under the name Cubic U, Utada recorded her first US album in 1996 before her debut in Japan, releasing the album in the US and Japan two years later. Her single off this album, Close To You, is a cover of the Burt Bacharach and Hal David song (and also the best track off the album). <3 The whole album moved too slowly for me and it all sounded the same. According to Wiki, although this album didn't do very much in the US, her move to Japan and into the J-music market was a result of someone from Japan hearing this album and asking her. Precious also sold over 700,000 copires in Japan, and gosh she was only like 15 when she recorded the album!
This Is The One is Utada's highly anticipated third US album (four years after her second and eleven years since her US debut! =O), featuring the single Come Back To Me, which we've all spazzed a lot about, and is a pretty short album. It's released in Japan on March 14, available for digital download in the US on March 24 and released in the US on May 12. The US edition doesn't contain tracks #11 & #12, which is a real bummer. :( I specifically remember Utada saying that she loved the Haji remix of Come Back To Me. The album is R&B influenced, and it's nice to see a touch of Japan, as Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence - FYI samples Ryuichi Sakamoto's song of the same name (which they featured quickly on 090306 Music Station!). A reminder that Come Back To Me (Remixes Digital Single) and Come Back To Me MV are also available! :)
