I just thought a gun would be more effective than what I have now. And if not? An extra skill never hurt.

What sort of guns are we talking about here? Big ones, handguns, old ones, automatic, pistols, foreign guns..? Granted, I'm not sure what counts as foreign here, but, well you understand the sentiment I'm sure.

Any, though I suppose something easy to use? The closest we have to such weapons in my world are slingshots and arrows.

Well... No gun is particularly easy to use effectively without a minimal amount of training. You'd have to learn how to deal with the recoil and such, but of course that depends on the gun.

I guess the sort of thing you're looking for is a handgun, possibly a type of semi-automatic pistol. That way, you don't have to worry about constant reloading, and it's small enough to carry around discreetly. You'd need to have some tutoring if it's a complex loading and readying type, but aside from that it'd be easy enough to manage.
