Recipient: just-katarin Author: jae-w Title: thieves like us Band: TYV/empires Pairing: Jon/Tom Summary: Is it really stealing if you only take what no one wants anyway? Word Count: 4,000
A second person POV can be hard to nail, but you did a masterly job. I thought it really worked with Tom's voice, and how he rationalises and the way he tells his stories. I liked how you had the snippets of Sean and Alfred in there too.
I love how you write these two together. I especially liked the sense of Tom surrounded by his new bandmates at the beginning, that these really are the people in his life now, and the contrast between Sean who doesn't see the difference in fixed things once they're functional again, versus Tom who can't stop seeing the scar. And then Jon, Jon who's known Tom for so long and knows all about what he's up to, except for one thing. So gorgeous!
Thanks so much! It's really interesting for me right now, to think about how to write Jon/Tom so that relationship has primacy, when both of them are also so clearly absorbed in their separate lives as well, Tom with his band and Jon with -- well, I'd like to say his band, but these days it seems more like his gf and his pets :)
Incredible! "It's really hard," he says after another minute, "because when you want things with other people, they can always stop wanting the same things. They can always stop wanting them with you," I keep thinking that this is how it will be with Ryan and Jon. I don't know, I just feel like Ryan will leave Jon behind.
