I'm going to a wedding next weekend with my boyfriend, We are both friends of the Groom, and don't really know the bride. We aren't the most creative people and don't have time to make something unless it's easy, and we're both on the poorish side. What should we get for them, something unique?

This is the best idea for a wedding gift I've ever seen. I love it, and it can be really reasonably priced. I got the idea from the Dollar Stretcher website:One of the most cherished wedding gifts we received consisted of five wine bottles with hand-made notes attached. The white was to be opened on our first anniversary, the red is to be opened in 2010, etc. The last one being a port to be opened in 2025.

Our best man went to a local wine shop and spent a half an hour with a knowledgeable clerk. Though he didn't know much about wine, he was able to find bottles that were inexpensive now but will age appropriately for their "to be opened" label. And they would be very expensive in five, ten, or 25 years! It's one of those gifts that we will cherish, and enjoy, for a very long time, and it's a reminder of all the good things yet to come.
I like it also because it's a vote of confidence in the marriage--assuring your friends that you believe they will be together to toast their relationship in the years to come.

Oh, I love this idea. I'm not the OP, but thanks for posting it, I've got an upcoming wedding that I'd like to do this for the couple.

I love that idea! My best friend is getting married in September and since they have been living together for awhile they won't have a registry. They love wine though and that's a great, thoughtful gift!

Oh yeah, gift baskets can be very very economical.

We recently bought a wedding gift for our friends, and it was easy and extra-personal- way better than a toaster. :P

We bought a buffalo-horn bowl at World Market, along with a terra cotta tool for scrubbing backs, a loofa, a bar of all-natural soap, and a little back massager (hand held, not electric. hee!) and put them with a few other similar items, into the bowl. Some candy or a candle would have also been appropriate, but they both perfer non-scented items and are diabetic, so. You tailor it to your friends!

We made sure to include a card, that let them know, these are some of OUR favourite 'together time' things. O:) So they would not feel it was just some gift at random, but instead see that we genuinely hope they have lots of together time too, and share with them what makes our lives work too!

Very inexpensive, but also- you don't so much run the risk of someone else getting them the same thing you do. ;)

1. Try to find their registry - there should be gifts in a variety of price ranges, and if not you will at least know where they shop/an idea of their taste. If, for example, you see that they are requesting all appliances in silver and red, you could find them a cute vase/picture frame/etc in the proper color ( ... )

if they are registered, i would just stick with something on the registry. if they are registered at bed bath & beyond or linens n things you can easily find coupons for those places.
even if you just get them a couple of towels it is a hundred times better than something they might or might not like. in this situation, i usually get a few of the cheapest things on their list so i'm getting them a few things and not just one random item. an assortment of random items looks like a lot even if it's a little. plus, it isn't so easy immediately tally up how much money you spent!
