Where does one find a free service?

I would check with local orginizations around town. The one i went to years ago was done by a local group - I don't even remember which one. But check church groups, groups on universities, the IRS website for groups, the papers, etc. They are always around, I think in my area the local democrats abroad are hosting a service to help people file. Takes a bit of research but they are around.

I don't recommend using a tax service. I have had friends that have been hired and frankly the training they received was not that impressive. You would do better going to either a free service

You are overgeneralizing. "Tax services" are not all created equal. For instance, there's a big difference between a CPA and that guy down the block.

Sorry about the overgenerilization - I actually don't account CPA's, tax lawyers etc as being a service. I differentiate between services that crop up each year and businesses that are year round and deal with more issues then just taxes. Accountants are not tax services. They are year round businesses who focus on much more imo.

I didn;t think most people on this list would be going to a CPA - but it is a good point - thanks!
