well, i think you lose nothing by going on the date. just make sure it's something YOU find enjoyable so if the guy is less than thrilling at least it won't be a total wash. frankly, you may be sensitive to the indian thing. you've been burned by weirdos in the past so you are keenly aware of any comments along those lines. more likely he is just lamely trying to think of something relative to bring up in conversation. and going on a bad date still has its uses... consider it a practice session or refresher :)

3. Go out w/ the guy and get over that self-defeatist attitude. Even if it sucks, you'll have tried something that you were scared to do before.
