How to Train Your Dragon

If you're waffling on whether to see How to Train Your Dragon, don't -- go see it. H and I saw it today and enjoyed it very much; it's a good mix of well-done rite-of-passage tropes, adventure, snarky dialogue, aw shucks story, and waycool visuals. Definitely worth the price of admission. For parents of small children (thinks of anelith), it's a little ( Read more... )

I definitely plan on seeing it. Hopefully I can find someone to go with, otherwise, I'll just go by myself. You know me and dragons. :)

We saw it this morning and LOVED it. One of the best animated movies we've seen in quite a while. Great story, AWESOME dragons. There were three kids in our group, two age 9 and one age 8, and only one said she thought a couple of moments were a TINY bit scary, if that helps anyone who's trying to decide. Did you see it in 3D?

Glad I'm not the only one who has seen and enjoyed the movie! Also glad it might not be as scary for kids as I thought (this generation's kids are harder to scare then my generation!).

I don't do 3-D; my eyes don't like it (I had eye surgery for strabismus in 1999, which greatly improved but didn't completely cure the condition; I still see double when I'm tired, and 3-D movies give me a headache).

H and I were psyched to see Alice... until we read the reviews. Now I'm glad we didn't take a chance on it. Every review I've seen seems to include the word "disappointing."

I freely admit that I don't always have a good sense of what kids these days will like. If yours aren't clamoring to see it, then don't push it... but get it from Netflix when it comes out on DVD -- it's entertaining! I do think the flying scenes are worth seeing on a large screen, but your mileage may vary.
