Thank you for the offer; I may take you up on that. I'm not sure I would be very good at fighting, but at least it would help me get into physical shape. Knowing how to defend myself seems as though it would be a valuable skill as well.

Fighting is a valuable skill in more ways than just self-defense, although with the dangers here that is an excellent motivation. I would be happy to instruct you, whenever is convenient for you.
