OOC: Memory #1 (Hearing/Sight)

Jul 16, 2009 15:19

[This is a Hearing/Sight crystal, referencing a scene from "Serenity" (the pilot episode of Firefly, not the movie). Will's punishment is to walk around in squeaky leopard-print shoes for a week. |D

The staticed/blacked-out parts are just River saying his real name, Simon.]

Will should have guessed what the strange crystal was that he found in one of the supply cabinets at the clinic. He should have guessed, and, more importantly, should have waited before he touched it...

The room was blue and brightly-lit, filled with medical supplies and equipment- an infirmary, much more sophisticated than Medical Island. On a table in the center of the room lay an unconscious girl with light brown hair, her lower half covered with a sheet. Will was pulling off bloody rubber gloves, putting them into a metal bowl, then taking off an apron he wore, which was also streaked with blood. Behind him stood a man dressed in khakis, a maroon shirt, and suspenders, a gun at his side... and Companion, clad in a green kimono or robe and a purple dress underneath.

"Can't do any more 'til she stabilizes," said Will, sounding tired and curt.

"Will she?" the man asked.

"I can't say yet," said Will.

"I want to know what's going on here," said Companion.

"Well, then, why won't we find out?" the man asked, and started leaving the infirmary. Will turned to look at him, then ran after him, stumbling.

"What are you- no! No..." he called out. Companion hesitated, looked at the unconscious girl, then followed them into an area that looked like a cargo bay of some sort. "Stay away from there- argh!" Will groaned as a tall man with a goatee locked an arm around his neck, holding him back.

"Where's the fed?" the maroon-shirted man asked as Will half-walked and was half-dragged forward.

"Secured. The shepherd's with him," said the goateed man. "He seems to think he's not safe alone with me." The maroon-shirted man was dragging out a large gray box as Will struggled to break free. He undid some catches, then pulled up a handle on the box's side, letting out smoke or vapor.

"No," Will choked.

"Well... let's see what a man like you would kill for," said the maroon-shirted man, and raised his leg.

"No, DON'T!" Will yelled, but it was hopeless- he kicked the top off the box. The goateed man let go of Will, and they watched as the smoke slowly dissipated. The maroon-shirted man looked over at him, then back at whatever was in the box.

"... Hunh," he said. Will started forward, but the goateed man seized him by the arms.

"I need to check her vitals," said Will.

"Oh, is that what they call it?" the maroon-shirted man said, his voice full of anger and suspicion.

"She's not supposed to wake up for another week," said Will, desperate. "The shock-"

"The shock of what? Waking up? Finding out she's been sold to some border-world baron?" the maroon-shirted man asked, furious. "Or- I'm sorry- was this one for you? Is it true love? Because you do seem a little-"

He was cut off as there was a scream, and the head and shoulders of a brown-haired girl appeared as she sat up. Whimpering and panting with fear and panic, she began to climb out of the box, and as she did, everyone present could see that she was stark naked. The girl continued to moan and gasp, looked around, then hunkered against the side of the box. Will broke free from the goateed man's grasp and ran to her, kneeling down near her. He put his hands on her shoulders.

"R-River," he said quietly, trying to sound calming. "Hey, it's okay... It's okay, it's okay. It's okay. I'm here." Then, something must have occurred that the Sphere didn't want Will to know, because there was a brief flicker as his vision turned black as the girl- as River's voice was cut off, until she abruptly came back into focus.

"-they, they talk to me, they want me to- they want me to-" she whimpered.

"No, they're gone! They're gone, they're gone, they're gone, we're safe now," Will soothed. "We're safe. I'm here. Come here..." He held River close, and she sobbed into his shoulder.

"What the hell is this?" the maroon-shirted man demanded, and Will looked up at him, Companion, the goateed man, and two others- a black woman and a man with short blond hair- who had appeared sometime during this.

"This is my sister," said Will, and the memory faded.
