That ending is gorgeous, in a heart-wrenching way. And Holmes's inner monologue, repeatedly demanding control that ultimately fails him, is really nice. Well done!

THIS.
This is what should have been the result of the explosion, and possibly the original movie script called for just that. If you watch the final Holmes-Blackwood duel on the Tower Bridge, you can see that it was choreographed so that Holmes would recover, first the scabbard, and then the blade, of Watson's sword-stick. But when did Watson lose it? I believe they shot the Bridge duel early and changed the script later. Leaving us with (sigh) continuity worthy of ACD.
