Nostrils of Satan!

I think I want to do violence.

National Park Service employees are forbidden from discussing the geological age of the Grand Canyon, to avoid offending those who believe the Earth is only 6000 years old.

The Park Service is also selling a book that explains that the Grand Canyon was formed during Noah's flood,

museums, right wing whack jobs, politics

On my recent trip to Minnesota, at my favorite state park (Temperance River), the first of the interperative plaques explaining the geology of the river gorge had been defaced, and the rest were completely gone (the stone pedestals still there, but the metal missing).

As I drove south to Minneapolis, there was an anti-abortion billboard like every mile on the interstate.

And this is Minnesota -- not exactly Bible Belt.

I have an ugly feeling that we (the sane) are losing our country to the minions of Nehemiah Scudder.

Bibliofile's got it. This claim turns out to be from a supposedly pro-science group that protects science by, um, making things up. The retraction from the Skeptic, admitting that they were not skeptical enough, is here.

The book is indeed being sold in the gift shop, along with more legitimate material. The wackjobs have their toehold. However, it doesn't sound like they have much chance of getting further control here.

"Here" meaning the Grand Canyon, not America as a whole. I could wish.
