Erik's very subjective skating rink reviews: Playdium

Built in the 50s or so. It's a Catholic school gymnasium/cafeteria/auditorium. It was built to be a skating rink as well, from the beginning. Not sure if it was intended to be a public service "keep the kids off the streets and away from cigarettes and drinking" thing or as a fundraiser ( Read more... )

Yup. They also have a public pool. (which is also the school's pool.)

Crikey! Is that whole thing a school? Has it always been? Because I've only ever known about the pool and rink, but I've known about it forever.

That whole BLOCK is a school, as far as I can tell.
The building with the pool and rink/gym/lunchroom/auditorium is only one piece.

Actually, now that I think of what I saw, the whole block is Catholic Infrastructure, but not all school; there's a school, a big church, and possibly a residential complex for some order (nuns or monks).
