The Grand Rapids Underground Transit System. A system of fictive rapid transit trains in downtown Grand Rapids MI. The stations are all located in the basements of downtown buildings.
A local radio station (WLAV) used to broadcast updates about how the system was running as part of their morning traffic reports, along with information about where you could get schedules and tickets, and so on.
I don't know if the GRUTS is still running...it had started falling into disuse when I lived there in the mid-80s.
Yeah, I'd rather just have the names next to the badges. But at least if you start to type in the box it narrows the list as you go. I think he probably wrote the interface with a much larger pool in mind. If there were, say, 3 times as many images, the only practical way would be to use the search box; browsing would be too cumbersome.
San Diego isn't on the list anyway. Neither is the San Jose light rail, which connects to BART, but isn't part of BART, or wasn't when I last rode it, anyway. Maybe he's only listing ones that don't run at street level?
